Reports to: Chief Nursing Officer
Summary: The Unit Clerk is responsible for unit clerical duties and for supporting the Nursing Department n implementing effective paper flow and record keeping systems.
Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent. Two (2) years experience in a clerical health care environment position and any combination of education, training or experience in a hospital environment. May be required to work occasional overtime, holidays and flexible hours.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of medical record maintenance and filing procedures.
- Knowledge of personal computers and software.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
- Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to recommend/take corrective courses of action that would improve the functioning of the department’s systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
- Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Ability to work as a team player.
