Position: Registered Nurse
Reports to: Clinical Nurse Manager
Summary: The Staff Nurse (R.N.) assesses, directs, delegates, coordinates and evaluates patient care through collaborative efforts with health team members and in accordance with the nursing process and the standards of care and practices. The Staff Nurse provides direction and clinical and administrative supervision to all nursing staff assigned to the unit. Coordination of all staff assignments ensures that all patients will receive optimal care and that the unit duties are completed.

Requirements: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of one (1) year experience preferred as a registered nurse in a psychiatric health care facility or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Currently licensed to practice by the Illinois State Board of Nursing. Must have a valid driver’s license. CPR certification and successful completion of the current patient aggression management training, including appropriate use of Seclusion and Restraint, within 90 days of employment. Must pass a medication administration exam and complete a basic developmental competency exam. Completion of CPI training and age-specific training within 90 days of employment, as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY

  • Knowledge and implementation of psychiatric, medical and A.N.A. standards and nursing procedures that meet standards including State Nurse Practice Act and Code of Ethics.
  • Knowledge of all code procedures.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Laws and Child Abuse/Neglect/Maltreatment Laws, and the Department of Human Services provider agreement, if applicable.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
  • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.
  • Ability to accept feedback from team members.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively compile and analyze date relating to patient care.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to comply with personnel policies related to work hours, attendance, dress code, time cards, meals and breaks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures for external disasters and other emergency procedures (Code Red, Green and Blue).
  • Ability to supervise and monitor BHT/BHS’s and other RN/LPN’s on duty
  • Ability to intervene in supervisory capacity when required while on duty.
