Reports to: Director of Quality Management
Summary: The Health Information Technician participates as an integral member of the Health Information Services team by ensuring the quality maintenance of patient information/medical records, within all laws, rules and regulations of federal and state licensing agencies, and The Joint Commission standards for quality of patient care.
Requirements: The Health Information Technician will be a high school graduate or equivalent. Graduation from or current enrollment in a Health Information Technology program is desired but is not necessary. At least one (1) year of experience in health care information management/medical records and a thorough knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. The Health Information Technician should have some typing skills. He/she should possess the ability to use computers (stand-alone PC and network) and have familiarity with various software programs. The Health Information Technician may be required to work occasional over-time and flexible hours.
- Thorough knowledge of the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act.
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of computers and various software programs.
- Knowledge of dictation system.
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, patients’ families, co-workers, physicians and various external agencies.
